Penny Stocks — Analysis & Key Financial Data
Penny Stocks group companies based on shared financial characteristics — for example by market-cap bucket, dividend yield, valuation, or composite Investment Score. Many investors use these attribute filters to quickly narrow a universe of stocks down to names that fit their own mandate or risk profile before doing deeper research. On this page you can review stocks that currently qualify for the penny stocks bucket using transparent, rules-based criteria. The goal is to surface a starting universe for further analysis rather than to provide buy or sell recommendations, so you can combine these tags with your own process and the Valuation Tool.

About penny stocks
"Penny stock" is one of the older and looser labels in markets — defined informally by share price rather than by company size or financial profile. The SEC's general reference is share price below US$5, which is the cut-off this screener uses. Pairing that with a US$50 million market-capitalisation floor excludes the very thinly traded sub-$50M segment where data coverage is too sparse to support fundamental screening.
The label captures a heterogeneous set. Some names are recovering small businesses with steady but modest cash flow; others are pre-profitability operators in capital-hungry industries; others again are previously larger companies that have declined to a low absolute share price without a reverse split. The screener applies the same Investment Score model to all of them and surfaces the underlying financials so the segment can be evaluated rather than treated as a single category.
What this page is for
This page is a screener and reference surface, not editorial coverage. The list above refreshes with each data update; the methodology, FAQ, and related categories below stay in place so the page is useful both for somebody arriving from a specific search and for somebody scanning the segment for the first time.
If you want to value a single penny stock end-to-end rather than scan the segment, the Invest Viable Valuator walks through the same models we use to compute the base valuations on this page.
How we screen Penny Stocks
A stock is included on this page when its share price is below US$5 and its market capitalisation is at least US$50 million. The market-cap floor excludes the very thinly traded sub-$50M segment, where data coverage is too sparse for meaningful screening.
price < $5 AND marketCap > $50,000,000
- The term penny stock is informally defined by share price; some classifiers use a US$1 threshold, others US$5. We use the US$5 cut-off, which is the SEC's general reference, paired with the US$50M market-cap floor.
- Stocks below US$50M in market cap are not surfaced even if they trade below US$5 — those typically have insufficient liquidity and disclosure for the screener's data inputs.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a penny stock on Invest Viable?
Any covered US-listed company trading below US$5 per share with a market capitalisation of at least US$50 million. The price threshold matches the SEC's general reference; the market-cap floor excludes thinly traded sub-$50M names where data coverage is sparse.
Are penny stocks always micro-cap?
Mostly yes — share price below US$5 with market cap above US$50M usually puts a name in the micro-cap or small-cap band. Occasionally a larger company has a low share price after a reverse split or extended decline. The two pages overlap heavily but answer different questions.
Why are penny stocks considered higher-risk than the broader market?
Lower share prices typically come with thinner liquidity, wider bid-ask spreads, less analyst coverage, and a higher proportion of pre-profitability businesses. Promotional activity and information asymmetry are also more common at the low end of the market. The screener surfaces the financial inputs so the underlying business profile is visible.
Why is the Investment Score sometimes null on this page?
The Investment Score requires sufficient financial-history coverage to compute. Some smaller companies report on simplified disclosure schedules or have short public histories, so the model may return null rather than a partial score. The page shows "—" rather than estimating in those cases.
Does Invest Viable recommend specific penny stocks?
No. This page is a screener and analysis surface, not a recommendation list. Each stock is shown with its underlying financial data, base valuation, and Investment Score so you can do your own research. Invest Viable does not publish buy or sell calls on individual securities.
